26th Dec 2009, getting up from bed @ bedroom
It should be around 8 something in the morning, I didn’t want to get up this early but I just can’t sleep anymore. Rays of light shining thru the gaps between the curtains, slightly lighted up my room. I opened my eyes 1mm wide, they were still covered with eye-shields stick with masking tapes to my forehead, cheeks and nose.
Slowly, I began to touch my face with my eyes shut(eeehww… was greasy after not washed for the last 30 hours) . Gradually move up to my eye-shields, I started to peel off the masking tapes one by one starting from my cheeks, nose and then forehead. Placing my eye-shields into my medical kit pouch that was next to my pillow and roll the used masking tape into a ball to discard.
As slow as I could, I tried opening my eyes but seems too dry as I feel the tight sensation. Again without opening my eyes, I reached out for my artificial tears tube in the medical kit pouch, twist open and began to drip into both eyes. I opened my eyes again, my vision was not clear and can’t seems to able to figure out things that place close to me(as though I was having long-sighted). I can’t tell what was the time on my watch.
Got up on my feet and entered the toilet, looking into the mirror I could see bloodshots in my both of my eyes. The bloodshots were about 1cm in radius spreading out from the pupil. At first I felt somehow worried cos I did not see these bloodshots on the day of operation but with a second thought, this might just a normal after Lasik reaction.
I went back to my bed and laid down, recalled what the optician said, “drip antibiotic and anti-inflammation solution once you wake up.” First eye-drop was an antibiotic called Vigamox which was slightly yellowish in colour and followed by a colourless steroid solution called Maxidex to reduce inflammation. I reached out to my medicine pouch for my eye-drops(obviously I can’t read the labels but earlier I asked dad to tie a rubber band onto the antibiotic eye-drops so that I can figure out with touch). When I drip Maxidex eye-drops, it gave a slight jump with its burning sensation. I closed my eyes softly to allow the excessive liquid flow onto my cheeks. I got up again and walked to the glass-shut windows. While trying to lose the concentration of burning sensation, I slide the curtains with my fingers and looked out thru the windows, “I CAN SEE!!! Dad, Mum! I can see!!” I was able to read the telephone numbers on a A4 size signboard across the street without the help of my glasses which was amazing!
